Image of the Week: Ice Conditions in the Kerch Strait
Two images of the Kerch Strait were received from SPOT 7 satellite on February 9 and 11, 2017. Tuzla Island and the bridge across the Kerch Strait can be seen on the images.
It can be clearly seen on the image taken on February 11, that there was ice cover in the Kerch Strait from the Sea of Azov. The thickness of the ice cover was about 10 centimeters. As noted, the possibility of the Strait icing during the bridge construction had been taken into account in the project, and ice loads were calculated not only for the bridge bearings, but also for all temporary structures.
