The first mention of Skidel dates back to 1501, and the date of the day of the city is unique for each year.

The population of the city is over 10 thousand inhabitants. The city has about 15 industrial enterprises, including Skidel sugar factory, built in 1946. This plant was the first Belarusian sugar production. The image shows numerous filtration fields filled with red water — waste from the processing of sugar beet and the production of citric acid. Wastewater is treated with special bacteria (anaerobic sludge).

The city also has an agro-industrial complex, a building materials factory, a concrete product plant, a medical products factory and a butter factory, the products of which are exported to Russia.
