On the image: Enotayevsky and Akhtubinsky Districts, Astrakhan Region, Russia

The images of the Enotayevsky and Akhtubinsky Districts of Astrakhan Region were received on June 26, 2016 and March 11, 2017 from SPOT 7 satellite. The part of the Volga-Akhtuba floodplain from Chornyy Yar settlement to Vetlyanka settlement can be seen on the images.

The Volga-Akhtuba floodplain is a part of land between the Volga River and the Akhtuba River. Its length is about 450 km, maximum width is 32 km. This is one of the most unique places on the planet for the richness of flora and fauna. The Volga-Akhtuba floodplain carries out the most important biospheric functions of a planetary scale. Every year there is a strong flood there, which lasts from the second decade of April to the middle of June.
