The image of the western part of the Yamal Peninsula was received on September 16, 2017 from SPOT 7 satellite. Baidaratskaya, Litke and Ngonyartso Islands can be seen on the image.

Litke Island is located in the Baidaratskaya Bay of the Kara Sea, near the western coast of the Yamal Peninsula. The area of ​​the island is about 120 square meters. km. The vegetation cover of the island is typical for moss-lichen tundra, in some places the island is swampy. Currently, only one family of reindeer herders lives on the Litke Island.

The island is named in honor of Fedor Petrovich Litke — a talented geographer-hydrographer, President of the Academy of Sciences, an outstanding admiral of the Russian fleet and statesman, first vice-president of the Russian Geographical Society. One of the highest RGS awards for outstanding geographical research, along with the Konstantinov medal, is the Litke gold medal.
